🕊️ “I Will Be Their God” – A Meditation by Andrew Murray

Jeremiah 24:7 — “And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Do not pass these words lightly.

They express the very highest experience of the Covenant relationship.

It is only when God’s people learn to love and obey His law, and when heart and life are wholly devoted to Him and His will, that He can fully reveal the inconceivable blessing wrapped in this promise:

“I will be your God.”

💎 What Does That Mean?

“All I am and have as God shall be yours.”

“All you can need or wish for in a God, I will be to you.”

  • The Omnipresent will be ever with you—full of grace and love.
  • The Almighty will work in you each moment by His mighty power.
  • The Holy One will reveal His sanctifying life within you.

“You shall be My people”—saved, blessed, ruled, guided, provided for, and known as a people belonging to the Holy One.

🙏 Pause and Reflect…

Let your heart linger here.

Wait on the Holy Spirit.

Meditate on these words until their meaning begins to take root and grow.

⚠️ Why Don’t We See More of This?

“Why, if all this is meant to be literally and exactly true of God’s people, do we experience so little of it in our lives?”

Murray’s answer is piercing and simple:

Because of your unbelief.

  • God will not compel the human heart.
  • All of the New Covenant is of faith.
  • God fulfills His purpose in hearts that are willing and open to receive.

📖 Let God Be Your Teacher

“They shall no more every man teach his neighbor… for they shall all know Me.” —Jeremiah 31:34

This is the promise of the New Covenant:

That the Holy Spirit will personally teach you to know God.

Not just about Him—but to know Him.

And how does this happen?

  • By yielding your heart to His Spirit
  • By receiving His teaching
  • By believing what He has promised
  • By resting in His power and faithfulness

💬 A Final Plea

Let us turn away from our past failures and call them what they were—unbelief.

Let us fully admit the truth:

That even a regenerate man cannot walk in God’s law by his own strength.

Now—let us turn to our Covenant God.

Let us believe that:

  • What He has done for us in Christ
  • He will now do in us by the Spirit of Christ

Let us give ourselves wholly to Him.

He will be our God.

And we—by His grace—will live as His people.
