A Testimony of the Lord’s Mercy

When I was about 14, I loved the water—swimming, skiing, and especially gliding underwater. One afternoon, I went too deep and realized I couldn’t make it back up. I knew I wasn’t going to reach the surface in time, so I stopped struggling… and gave up. I took a breath, expecting the end.

But nothing happened.

Surprised, I pushed toward the surface and made it up. I swam back to shore where my mom was calling us in for supper. I walked out of the water, headed to the house, and—teenager that I was—thought to myself, “Huh, guess Mom’s not as smart as she thinks. People don’t die when they breathe water.” Continue reading
